Free, art Experience park opens

Illumination Park: An Art Experience at The Hangout officially opened to the public on June 2 when MBACC and Broadway at the Beach held an official ribbon cutting.

Broadway at the Beach partnered with the new Hangout restaurant to bring in world-class artworks and create the free art experience. The park, located on the lawn across from The Hangout in the new Key West Village section of Broadway, features artwork that is magnificent and playful during the day and brilliant as the sun fades and the pieces come to life with illumination.

The Owner of The Hangout Shaul Zislin, Broadway At The Beach's General Manager Jim Powalie, and several of the featured artists spoke at a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday morning that preceded Illumination Park's first fully-lit evening.

"Broadway At The Beach has been a fantastic partner for us and really brought this project to life," Zislin said. "The Hangout is all about experiences and fun for all generations to enjoy, together and Illumination Park is exactly that."

The exhibits included in the Illumination Park are designed to embrace the creative energy and nostalgic feel of The Hangout, celebrating classic childhood symbols, as well as elements of the natural world.

"These art pieces have been seen as far away as Australia to Abu Dabi and they are now here in Myrtle Beach," said Lindsay Glatz, curator of Illumination Park. "It's clear that The Hangout and Broadway At The Beach truly value their customers and want to give them an exceptional, art-filled experience. The exhibits celebrate nature, and everyday objects become an invitation to play. We welcome everyone to come and enjoy this one-of-a-kind experience."

Illumination Park will feature rotating artworks throughout the summer and the new Key West Village section of Broadway at the Beach will also feature permanent murals that will be created and installed in the coming months.

The Hangout, which opened in June 2022, is a family-friendly restaurant and entertainment venue with a focus on multi-generational activities and fun. You can find kids and grandparents dancing on tables, laughing, singing, and making lifelong memories. It's a throw-back to simpler days of analog family vacations highlighting the American family vacation experience.

Broadway at the Beach is South Carolina’s number one tourist, shopping, dining and entertainment destination, offering something for the whole family. A past recipient of the South Carolina Governor's Cup, it was deemed the state's best travel destination by the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism.
