The SkyWheel Is Back, Better Than Ever

Look what’s lighting up the Myrtle Beach skyline once again … the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel.

On May 20, 2021, the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and re-opened to the public after receiving a makeover.

Part of the upgrades included installing a new state-of-the-art lighting system with more than 1 million LEDs. Whether you’re walking along Ocean Boulevard or miles away, you’ll now be able to enjoy the more dynamic nighttime lighting displays.

Custom light shows celebrating special events are available, including holidays, gender reveals, marriage proposals, sports team achievements and more.

The 42 gondolas were also refurbished and refreshed, including the glass-bottom VIP gondola.

During the ribbon cutting, Rachel Beckerman, marketing and brand manager for the SkyWheel thanked her staff who worked extra hard through the process of getting the attraction back up. “We want to get back to having fun because that’s what we’re all about at SkyWheel. And we can’t wait to have everyone ride the new SkyWheel, see how smooth it is, and see that beautiful view out there.”

The reopening of the upgraded observation wheel also coincides with the attraction’s 10th anniversary. During a celebration on May 19, Diana Greene, chief of administration for the chamber, congratulated the SkyWheel team for their successes over the past decade as well as their commitment to the Myrtle Beach area.
